Bob Gordon is the Principal and co-founder of ethicsLINC, LLC, a business ethics and compliance consulting services firm providing innovative business ethics solutions to organizations. The firm focuses on translating legal and technical advice into business processes that can be implemented and sustained in daily operations. In conjunction with the creation of sustainable business process change, ethicsLINC produces and provides training on legal requirements, process changes and ethical decision making, through innovative training methods that can be delivered as live sessions or streamed over the web for distant operational sites.

Prior to the formation of ethicsLINC, Bob was the Corporate Coordinator for Compliance and Ethics at UPS, with responsibility for all locations outside the domestic U.S. During his eleven year tenure in the Compliance and Ethics Department at UPS, he played a significant role in the development and implementation of a number of Compliance Programs for the company, including those related to Anti-Corruption (FCPA) Compliance; Government Contracts; Hazardous Materials and Dangerous Goods; Records Management; Antitrust and Fair Competition; Information Use and Security (Privacy); Boycotts, Embargoes and Restrictive Trade Practice related to Transnational Shipments; and Insider Trading.

Bob helped develop, expand and manage the UPS Help Line, first implemented in 1996, overseeing or participating in all investigations resulting from information received via that channel. During the period in which Bob managed the UPS Help Line, it became global in scope and received over 4,000 calls per year.

As part of the Company’s efforts to ensure ethical business behavior and manage business conduct globally, Bob managed both an annual Report and Certification process for all senior management and an annual Business Ethics Questionnaire. The results of these processes were reported to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

As part of an effort to ensure program sustainability, Bob worked with a cross functional team to establish and implement a system to combine audits of all key compliance programs. This “Regulatory Compliance Review” continues to be expanded globally as new Compliance programs are developed or existing programs are implemented in new locations or for new acquisitions. In addition to providing a dashboard look at all of the regulatory programs, the Regulatory Compliance Review has proven to be an excellent training and accountability tool for employees working in regulated areas.

In the area of mergers and acquisitions, Bob participated in the due diligence process for certain acquisitions and participated in subsequent investigations to resolve issues identified during this process. His work in this area took place in both the domestic U.S. and various locations in Asia, South America and Europe.

A key risk area for an organization seeking to achieve and maintain an ethical compliance program is the conduct of investigations. An improperly conducted investigation can cause greater risk to an organization than the issue being investigated. To assist managers in the field conduct proper investigations of workplace issues, Bob wrote the Guidelines for Investigation of Workplace Issues, which continues to be in use globally. Bob also served as a guest instructor for the Ethics Officers Association course, “Managing Ethics in Organizations” at Bentley College in Boston, where he taught the session on Investigating Workplace Issues. Bob was a frequent speaker for UPS at outside organizations, including the Ethics Officers Association and The Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics and for UPS globally at numerous internal classes and meetings. Bob is currently licensed as a private detective by the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies in the State of Georgia.

Bob’s final assignment at UPS involved the evaluation of and subsequent establishment of permanent Compliance & Ethics managers throughout the international regions. Bob had direct management responsibility for Region Compliance & Ethics managers in Asia, Europe and the Americas – all places he personally visited.

During his time with UPS, Bob also represented the company at The Southern Institute of Business Ethics; the Carter Center Council on Ethical Business Practices and The Ethics Officer Association. Bob was a founding member of the Atlanta Compliance and Ethics (ACE) Roundtable and served as co-chair of the organization for its first three years. Bob has his B.Sc. degree in Business Administration. After twenty two years with UPS, Bob retired in February 2007.
